‘Abraham’s Boys’ – Joe Hill’s ‘Dracula’ Sequel Acquired by RLJE & Shudder

RLJE Films and Shudder have acquired the worldwide rights to Abraham’s Boys, an adaptation of the Joe Hill short story that serves as a sequel to Bram Stoker‘s Dracula, Variety reports.

Written and directed by Natasha Kermani (V/H/S/85, Lucky), the film premieres this weekend at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans.

It follows Max and Rudy Van Helsing, who both struggle under their overprotective father, Abraham. After they dig into Abraham’s history with Dracula, Max and Rudy’s world unravels as they discover the history and legacy they have unknowingly inherited.

Titus Welliver (“Bosch”), Jocelin Donahue (The House of the Devil), Judah Mackey (“The Young And The Restless”), Brady Hepner (The Black Phone), and Aurora Perrineau (“Westworld”) star.

The film is produced by Tim Wu and James Howard Herron of Illium Pictures and James Harris and Leonora Darby of Tea Shop Productions.

“It was a joy to bring Joe Hill’s dark, gothic story to the screen on location in California, with a fantastic Los Angeles cast and crew,” Kermani said in a statement. “I’m so excited to now be able to share the film with audiences all over the world alongside my friends at RLJE Films and Shudder.”

“We can’t wait to bring Abraham’s Boys to audiences and expand the Dracula legacy with a fresh and compelling perspective,” added RLJE Films’ Chief Acquisitions Officer Mark Ward. “Natasha Kermani has woven a gripping, character-driven horror story that drags Van Helsing’s past into the light — whether his sons are ready for it or not.”

Hill’s short story originally appeared in the 2004 anthology The Many Faces of Van Helsing before being published in the author’s 2005 short story collection, 20th Century Ghosts.

Hill will publish his fifth novel, King Sorrow, October 21. Previous adaptations of his work include The Black Phone, “Locke & Key,” “NOS4A2,” In the Tall Grass, Horns, and the forthcoming Basketful of Heads.
