The BAFTA Games Awards for 2025 have been announced, and much like The Game Awards 2024, ASTRO BOT came out on top, winning the coveted Best Game category. However, unlike Geoff Keighley’s baby, horror managed a better showing this time around with awards, with The Chinese Room’s Still Wakes The Deep leading the way.
The first-person narrative horror title took home three awards out of its eight total nominations at the 21st BAFTA Games Awards ceremony, the second-highest number of wins for a single game at this year’s event. Still Wakes The Deep and its developer received BAFTA awards for New Intellectual Property, Performer in a Leading Role for Alec Newman, and Performer in a Supporting Role for Karen Dunbar.
Other genre winners include Vampire Survivors for Evolving Game, Helldivers 2 for Multiplayer and Music, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II for Technical Achievement.
“Thank you to everyone at The Chinese Room and Secret Mode,” said Alec Newman while accepting the award for Performer in a Leading Role, “your attention to detail is phenomenal, and was an inspiration to me from the moment I first read for Caz McLeary.”
“It was a real labour of love,” said Ed Daly, Studio Head for The Chinese Room while accepting the award for New Intellectual Property, while Karen Dunbar thanked Scotland and said “I am completely overwhelmed” while receiving the award for Performer in a Supporting Role.
Set aboard the Beira D oil rig off the coast of Scotland in the North Sea in 1975, Still Wakes the Deep (read Harrison’s review) has players fighting for their lives while they’re stalked by an unknowable horror that has come aboard. As Cameron “Caz” McLeary, players will navigate the collapsing rig, desperately searching for a way home.
You can find Still Wakes the Deep on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC via Steam.
